All About Aerial Yoga

Aerial yoga is for everyone

but what do you need to know?

Aerial Yoga increases body awareness, releases tight joints, builds muscular strength and flexibility & decompresses the spine. It is a wonderful complement to other styles of yoga, pilates or other strenuous exercise.

Aerial yoga uses fabric hammocks suspended at different heights for different styles of use.

Like rope walls, straps and yoga blocks, the 'yoga silks' provide a range of benefits in our poses including support, positioning, balance, focus, myofascial massage and even gentle traction - many people find aerial yoga an invaluable tool in relieving back, hip, neck and shoulder pain.

On our wellness & yoga retreats we offer two styles of aerial yoga - both of which are beginner friendly, taught in a way that allows you to choose your own level of effort/ stretch/ comfort.

Aerial yin & meditation is a sublime way to unwind, switch off and gently stretch out the body.

We find comfortable positions using the yoga silks close to the ground. Our goal is to allow the heart, mind and nervous system to calm down, at which point we are able to relax into longer held positions that help stretch tight joints, muscles and fascia.

Aerial restore is the perfect starting place for anyone feeling nervous about using the yoga silks as we have lots of contact with the ground. Positions include seated, standing, lying in the silk.  Aerial yoga commonly concludes with a guided meditation while you relax in your private cocoon

Aerial Yoga Flow:  Aerial Flow Yoga is a genie in a bottle.   Everything you ever wanted all in one aerial retreat and workshop.   You'll stretch, strengthen, balance and massage your whole body.

You can expect to feel challenged at times, but most of all you will finish your first class feeling a combination of exhilaration and relaxation.

What makes aerial flow intimidating to some?  The silk is set higher than in our Aerial Yin classes, around hip height. This session may also include inverted positions if you choose (or you are free to watch any parts you are unsure of).

The silk guides each person to find the right level in each pose, so you do as much, or as little as your body is ready for.   In fact, the silk is the perfect took in building confidence, skills, strength and technique in inverted yoga poses - taking as much of the weight as you need and acting as a safety net to hold you.

You might find yourself amazed at the things you can do. Each session on our yoga retreat finishes with a guided Savasana (quiet meditation) with breath work to complete your 'Zen'.
