Yoga retreats for real people

Aerial Yin Yoga on Victorian Wellness Retreats

Yoga Retreats Victoria: For Real People, Backed by Real Science

You don't need to be a yogi to come on a yoga retreat. You don't need to own a pair of linen pants, know what ujjayi breathing is, or feel comfortable doing downward dog in front of strangers.

We Built This Because the Wellness Industry Made Our Skin Crawl

After 30 years in health and fitness — between us, across physiotherapy, exercise physiology, strength and conditioning — we hit a wall. Not burnout, exactly. More like a slow, creeping frustration with an industry that had started selling people things they didn't need, backing claims that had no evidence behind them, and gatekeeping rest behind a particular aesthetic that had nothing to do with actual wellbeing.

So we built something different.

Little Farm of Calm isn't going to ask you to give up anything, believe anything, or transform into a version of yourself you don't recognise. The only agenda is that you leave feeling genuinely better than when you arrived.

The Problem with Yoga Retreats (Said by Someone Who Teaches Yoga)

Here's something you don't often hear from a retreat: sometimes, yogis are the problem.

The wellness world has done a brilliant job of making rest feel like something you have to earn. Yoga retreats can be some of the worst offenders — incense-heavy, jargon-filled, 5am-mandatory, communal-bathroom affairs that somehow make relaxation feel stressful. It's enough to put anyone off for life.

We understand the frustration. And we've built Little Farm of Calm specifically for people who've felt excluded by that version of wellness, or who've simply never seen themselves in a retreat brochure before.

Little Farm of Calm is led by Jill Mentiplay, an AHPRA-registered physiotherapist and self-described reforming perfectionist who has strong opinions about the wellness industry and stronger opinions about evidence. Everything on offer at the farm has actual research behind it. Not trends. Not vibes. Not expensive nonsense from practitioners who should know better.

What Actually Happens Here

Set on a working farm in regional Victoria — Benalla, two hours north of Melbourne — Little Farm of Calm runs yoga and wellness retreats that are genuinely, truly all-inclusive. Meals, accommodation, yoga classes, wellness treatments, activities: all in from the start. No awkward extras, no add-on menus, no calculating what you can afford once you're already there.

Here's what that looks like:

  • Your own private cabin — not a dorm, not a shared room. Somewhere to genuinely retreat to when you need it.

  • Yoga classes for all levels — whether you haven't moved your body in six months or you practise every day and need something different

  • Evidence-based wellness treatments — including red light therapy, float therapy and physiotherapy-informed movement. Things that work.

  • Proper food, proper coffee — we are not going to make you drink green juice and call it lunch

  • Wildlife encounters at Wildside — our DEECA-licensed native animal rescue and rehabilitation shelter on the property. Baby wildlife optional, but highly recommended.

  • Actual unscheduled time — the kind most of us haven't had in years, that we're all secretly desperate for and slightly afraid of

Everyone gets their own private cabin with ensuite - no shared bathrooms!

The Philosophy (Short Version)

Darren, our exercise physiologist, says it plainly: the fundamentals work. Get strong, stay mobile, don't overcomplicate it.

Jill's version is slightly more complicated, because bodies are: there is no one answer. Every person needs to find what works for them.

Between those two positions, there's a lot of room for you to figure out what you need. And that's kind of the whole point of a retreat — not to follow someone else's programme, but to get enough space and support to hear yourself think.

You're In Charge of Your Own Experience

We don't run a rigid schedule. There are structured sessions available if you want them, and there are hammocks if you don't. You can sit around the fire and talk to other guests until late, or you can take yourself off for a long walk around the property and not speak to a single person for three hours. Both are completely fine. Both are, in fact, the point.

This is actually one of yoga's less-talked-about principles: svadhyaya — self-study, knowing yourself, understanding what you actually need rather than what you think you should need. We just don't make a big deal of the Sanskrit.

Yoga Retreats Near Melbourne: Why Benalla?

Two hours north of Melbourne, Benalla sits at the edge of the Victorian high country — far enough from the city to genuinely feel like you've left it behind, close enough that you're not spending half a day in the car.

The farm itself is the experience. Native bushland, open paddocks, resident wildlife, and the particular kind of quiet that only exists when you're away from roads and phone notifications. People regularly tell us it's the first time in months they've slept through the night. We've stopped being surprised by this.

Who Comes Here

People who haven't done yoga in years. People who've never done it at all. People who do yoga every day and are still exhausted. People recovering from injury or illness. Couples who need time together that isn't just the couch. Solo travellers who want company without social pressure. Women in their 40s, 50s and 60s who are done with wellness experiences that weren't designed with them in mind.

In short: regular people. Who deserve to feel good, and don't need to become someone else to do it.

Retreat Options

We run three formats depending on what you can fit:

  • Weekend Wellness Reboot — Fri to Sun (2 nights). Prices from A$1,599 per person. The minimum effective dose of a proper reset.

  • 4-Day Long Weekend Retreat — our most popular option, and for good reason. From A$2,699. Enough time to actually decompress.

  • 7-Day Wellness, Wildlife & Yoga Retreat — from A$3,299. The full experience, if you're ready for it.

All options are fully all-inclusive — no hidden costs, no supplements menu, no surprises.

Our Feel Good Guarantee

We're the only retreat in Australia that offers a Feel Good Guarantee. If you don't leave feeling genuinely better than when you arrived, we want to hear about it.

That's not a marketing line. It's what we built this place for.

Come and See for Yourself

If you've been putting off a yoga retreat because you didn't think it was for you — it is. Especially this one.
