Is This the Wellness Retreat for You?

You've probably thought about going on a retreat at some stage, and talked yourself out of it because the whole thing sounded a bit much. The sound baths. The mandatory sharing circles. The Ayurvedic food with flowers on top. The vague promise that you'll leave "transformed." The price tag that made your eyes water and all the photos of people wearing white, smiling at each other with their mouth open..

Fair enough. We'd have talked ourselves out of it too.

So we try very hard NOT to be all that. And to make sure that we are 100% transparent about who we are and what we do here.

That being said, Little Farm of Calm is a wellness retreat in regional Victoria, about two hours from Melbourne unless you get stuck behind a convoy of caravans on a long weekend. In which case it’s two and a half.
We are run by a physiotherapist and an exercise physiologist. We are on a working wildlife shelter and farm. We rescue wildlife. We cook everything from scratch. And we will never, ever make you sit in a circle and share your feelings with strangers unless you genuinely want to.

What you'll find here

Five acres of rural outlook. Ten eco-cabins — more on those in a second. Three dedicated studios. A magnesium salt pool. A float tank. Red light therapy. Reformer pilates. Aerial yoga. A cold plunge. A heated pool. Massage. A self-defence workshop that gets mentioned in almost every review we receive, usually with the word "unexpected."

Everything is included. No add-ons, no tiers, no upselling at check-in.

And nothing is mandatory. You can fill every hour or you can sleep (we’re repeatedly told that our beds are really comfy), float, and sit by the pool for three days. Both are a completely legitimate use of a retreat. We will not judge you either way.

About the cabins

Not a Park Hyatt. Not a tent in a paddock. Something we think is genuinely better than both.

We sourced mining dongas — insulated, soundproofed, hurricane-proof, and about as energy-efficient as you can get without going underground. Then we fitted them out with really comfy beds, quality linens, good toiletries, blackout curtains, and everything else that makes the difference between a good night's sleep and a great one.

Each cabin has its own private bathroom. We mention this because we know you're thinking about it — and because when you're eating well and actually resting properly for a few days, your digestion tends to have opinions. Private bathroom. You're welcome.

They're quiet, they're comfortable, and they are excellent for sleeping in — which, if you're arriving exhausted, matters more than you might expect.

The wildlife bit

We run Wildside Wildlife Shelter alongside the retreat. No government funding, just us. At any given time there are kangaroos, wombats, and various native birds in care on the property.

Guests tend to encounter them as part of daily life rather than as a scheduled activity. The kangaroos in particular have decided that guests are interesting and may follow you accordingly. It is, by most accounts, unexpectedly one of the highlights of the stay.

So — is it for you?

Probably yes, if any of these sound familiar:

You're tired in a way that a weekend on the couch isn't fixing. You've been meaning to do something like this for a while but couldn't face the idea of a conventional retreat. You're not sure you're "the retreat type." You have a bad back, a dodgy knee, or a general suspicion that group wellness activities aren't for you.

Probably not, if you're looking for a party, a five-star hotel experience, or anywhere that serves alcohol.

We keep numbers small, the programme is led by registered practitioners, and the whole thing is designed around the idea that you are an adult who knows what your body needs — you just haven't had the space to listen to it lately.

Happy to Have a Chat - We’ll be Honest

The fastest way to know if it's right for you is a five-minute phone call. We'll tell you honestly what to expect, what's coming up, and whether it sounds you would enjoy your stay with us. Most importantly, we’ll also tell you if we can’t deliver what you need. Because we really, truly, want our guests to feel the difference from their stay with us - that’s why we put in a Feel Good Guarantee.
